Michelle Armistead

Senior Mental Health Clinician & Arts Psychotherapist

Michelle is a senior mental health clinician and registered arts psychotherapist with over twenty years of experience in health and community care. Her practice at Relational Minds is grounded in evidence-based, trauma-informed, and neuro-affirming frameworks, integrating pluralistic arts therapy modalities to support emotional regulation, relational safety, and personal growth. Michelle’s approach is rooted in the creation of a calm, compassionate, and non-judgmental therapeutic space where clients of all ages and neurotypes feel seen, heard, and valued.

Drawing on a diverse range of art materials and therapeutic interventions, Michelle supports clients in externalising and exploring their experiences—especially when words are insufficient or overwhelming. Michelle’s work is informed by complex systems theory and current neuroscience, recognising that creative expression can foster regulation, resilience, and new patterns of meaning. Michelle is committed to a collaborative and client-led process, ensuring that each individual’s pace, preferences, and strengths are honoured throughout therapy.

Michelle’s clinical expertise includes supporting children, adolescents, adults, parents, and carers experiencing stress, anxiety, trauma, neurodivergence, psychosocial disabilities, or emotional regulation challenges. Her practice is particularly effective for those who may feel “stuck,” overwhelmed, or unable to articulate their experiences verbally. By engaging in arts psychotherapy, clients are invited into a process of curiosity, self-discovery, and healing, with the assurance that art skills are not required—only a willingness to explore.
