Understand your child clearly, without losing sight of who they are.

Assessments for autism and ADHD that bring together your child’s development, mental health and relationships, so you understand not just what is going on, but why, and what helps.

You might be here because

Someone has raised the question of autism or ADHD. Perhaps your GP or paediatrician suggested an assessment. Perhaps school keeps flagging the same concerns. Or perhaps you have wondered for a while, watching your child struggle with things that seem to come easily to others, and you want to understand it properly.

Whatever brought you here, you are looking for clarity. Not a label handed over with a report and no plan, but a real understanding of your child that you can use.

What makes our assessments different

Most assessments look at symptoms and stop there. We start from the belief that your child’s behaviour makes sense, and that a diagnosis is only part of the story. So we look wider, at their development, their emotional world, their relationships, and what life has been like for them.

A diagnosis does not define your child, and it never explains everything. We hold that in mind the whole way through. The result is an assessment that tells you who your child is and what they need, not just which box they fit.

Because we are a mental health team with child psychiatry built in, we can look at the fuller picture in one place, including where attention, anxiety, mood or early experiences are part of what is going on.

I’d make this a two-column section with a warm parent-child image or clinician-family image on the other side.

What an assessment with us involves

Every family starts with a discovery appointment, a proper first session where we understand your child and what has brought you here. From there, if an autism or ADHD assessment is the right path, we begin the formal process and walk you through each step.

Depending on what your child needs, an assessment may include a detailed developmental and family history, questionnaires completed by you and by your child’s school, direct observation of your child by a trained clinician, and input from our psychiatrist. We gather information across the different parts of your child’s life, because that is what a sound assessment requires.

We bring it all together into a written report, and then we sit down with you to walk through what we found and what it means. You leave understanding the picture, with a plan for home and school, not a document you are left to interpret alone.

What you receive

A clear assessment report

A clear assessment report in plain language, not jargon.

A face-to-face explanation

An explanation of what the findings mean for your child, delivered face to face.

Practical strategies

Practical strategies for home and school you can start using.

Support afterwards

A pathway into support afterwards, so a diagnosis is a beginning, not an endpoint.

What it costs

Our child autism and ADHD assessments start from $1,650, depending on the type of assessment your child needs. The fee is invoiced in parts across the weeks the assessment takes, rather than as one payment up front. We confirm the current fee and give you a full breakdown before anything begins, so there are no surprises. We also assess adults, so please contact us to discuss.

Funding and rebates

The assessment itself is private. A GP referral to our psychiatrist can then open access to Medicare rebates for psychiatric care, including a pathway to ongoing rebated sessions once the assessment is done. If your child has NDIS funding, talk to us about what may apply to your situation.

“Both of my teenage daughters have been supported by Relational Minds, and the change over the past few years has been incredible. When our eldest was assessed and diagnosed with Autism, it completely changed how we understood and supported her. She’s since grown into herself, confident, independent, and thriving in ways we only hoped for. Our youngest has also found stability after some very hard times. I can’t thank the team enough for the understanding, support, and hope they’ve given our family.”

Common questions

Do I need a referral?

You can begin without one. A GP referral is needed to access Medicare rebates for psychiatric care after the assessment, and for any psychiatry involvement. We can guide you on this.

We assess children, adolescents and adults. Tell us the age when you get in touch and we will confirm the right approach.

Some parts can, depending on your child and what the assessment needs. We work out the right mix with you.

Yes. Understanding your child is the start. We support you and your child from there, at home and with school.
